California, US Club State Cup, Showcase Program, Spring Leagues

PSPL Fall 2009 Week 5 News and Notes...

As Match Day 5 of the US Club Puget Sound Premier League approaches this weekend, we want to offer some reminders:
 
California Dreaming -- Division 1 League winners receive automatic invitation to two top invitational tournaments in California -- Mustang Stampede for girls and the Santa Clara Invitational for boys. Both tournaments take place in August 2010. This is an outstanding opportunity for our best teams. Good luck to everyone! (SSFC Note: we currently have 3 teams in contention for the California trip.)


US Club Washington Premier Cup -- There will be a state cup competition sanctioned by US Club Soccer called the US Club Washington Premier Cup that is planned for May 2010. This will be an open tournament and winners receive automatic invitation to compete in the Mustang Stampede or Santa Clara Invitational. Currently, US Club has the same tournament scheduled for November 2009. We encourage all PSPL teams to register for that contest but winners will not be eligible for the California tournaments. We plan to change the format and move the new US Club state cup tournament to May. Check the web site for upcoming details.

PSPL Showcase Teams -- The PSPL board is finalizing plans to create showcase teams for our top soccer players, beginning at U11 to U14. We plan to hold tryouts in late spring and selected players will attend a four-day summer residency camp to prepare for two top tournaments. This proposed program is a great way for our clubs to retain our top players while giving them an opportunity to play at a higher level. Unlike ODP, cost of the program will be free for the players who make the teams. More details to be announced soon.
(SSFC Note: The player showcase is the missing piece of player development which SSFC has been working on for the past 2-3 years.  We have players which excel in soccer in both talent and desire, and though we have been pushing teams to compete at higher levels, like the US Club Regionals, have not been able to provide a adequate exposure for these players.  US Club soccer provides us the flexibility to create showcase teams for players desiring to train with other like players and participate in higher level tournaments than may be possible with a local club team.  These showcase teams will also get exposure to college coaches for those interested in college soccer. )


Spring League -- The PSPL board soon will be setting the dates for the Spring League. While the schedule has not received final approval, clubs should plan for an eight-game season kicking off first of March (or late February) and running through the end of April. Puget Sound Premier League Fall Season

SEATTLE, June 26, 2009 -- The Puget Sound Premier League is pleased to announce today enormous support for its inaugural Fall League 2009. Following a meeting of club officials on Thursday, 14 clubs have committed some or all of their teams to playing in the US Club Soccer-sanctioned fall season, kicking off Sept. 12.
 
Clubs that have committed some or all of their teams to the PSPL Fall League 2009 include: SeattleCityFC Blue Arrows/Saprissa; Synergy; South Sound Futbol Club; FC Crush; Washington Rush; Cascade FC; Mount Rainier Football Club; Issaquah/Arsenal; Maple Valley Soccer Club/Marauders; Pumas; Tynecastle United; Wenatchee Fire; CB United; South County FC; FC Brazil and Kent Fusion. Other clubs seriously considering the PSPL include: FC Shoreline; Spokane Elite; Coeur d'alene Sting; and Franklin Pierce Youth Soccer Club.
 
"This is a great day for youth soccer in this state,'' said Stanley Holmes, president of the PSPL.  "Young players and their parents now have real choices and real options so they can decide what's best in terms of competition, player development and cost.''
 
Said Tracy Peters, president of the Auburn Youth Soccer Association and Craig Danielson, coaching director for Synergy: "Synergy and AYSA are pleased and proud to be involved in the PSPL league and will have teams participating in the fall and spring programs.''
 
The PSPL Fall League 2009 will offer a 12-game season for U10 to U14 teams, an 8-game spring league and a US Club Washington state cup in mid-May to mid-June. Winners of the Washington state Cup qualify automatically to play in Mustang Stampede or Santa Clara Invitational regional tournaments in northern California.
